African Platform for Open Scholarship (inclusive of UCT Press) joins the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) Trusted Platform Network

UCT Libraries hosted African Platform for Open Scholarship (APOS), formerly known as the Continental Platform, has now joined the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB) Trusted Platform Network. DOAB collaborates with several trusted platforms to:

  • enhance the discoverability of open access books,
  • enable publishers to list their open access books in DOAB, and most importantly
  • ensure open access books meet the DOAB criteria.

The inclusion of APOS in this network is significant for elevating the quality and enhancing the visibility of African scholarship. Congratulations to the Scholarly Communications team, led by Ms Jill Claassen,  for this milestone achievement!

Call for book proposals

The UCT Press editorial board is excited to announce the relaunch of UCT Press as the premier open access academic publisher for knowledge in, for and from Africa, building on our long commitment to publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarly publications and original academic research.

The purpose of your book must be to disseminate original research and new developments for, from and about Africa in the specific relevant fields. We particularly encourage inter and transdisciplinary approaches, research for impact and engaged research. Publications may be a monograph, or an edited collection of chapters that offers new insights from an African perspective.  We therefore invite established and emerging researchers to submit book proposals.

The UCT Press Editorial Board will consider book proposals on their academic merit. If accepted, we will ask you to send us your final manuscript for independent peer review.

Manuscripts must be of the highest quality and compliant with the appropriate ethics protocols. All images should be cleared for use by the copyright holders and be copyright compliant with South African law.

While offering global dissemination of research through its open access digital platform, UCT Press leverages its global network of book sellers and distributors to increase its book publication footprint. Your books will be published on open access or made available in print through our existing book distribution network. Enhancing research visibility open access model means that e-books will be digitally available, accessible and discoverable worldwide. The print copies will be marketed and sold locally and internationally. This will make your book available as widely as possible.

Access the book proposal form here, book proposal guide here and register as an author in order to submit your proposal here. Please do not send in unsolicited manuscripts. We look forward to welcoming you to our scholarly community!
